On May 9th, the tug ROBERT FRAZIER pushing barges Kirby 29001 and Kirby 29301 (containing Naphtha) collided with the tug MELINDA BRENT pushing barges Dixie 2959 and Hollywood 3026 (containing Xylene). The number 5 tank on the Kirby 29301 was damaged causing an estimated release of 25,200-33,600 gallons of Naphtha into the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway. One of the MELINDA BRENT''s barges received damage but did not release material. The Houston Ship Channel and the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway were initially closed and then reopened as air monitoring results and movement of the damaged barges allowed. Air monitoring tests in the vicinity showed no hazardous vapors in the area. All barges involved in the incident were moved to the Bolivar, TX Terminal. Lightering plans for the damaged barges have been approved. CASE PENDS.
