On October 23, 2000, the Tank Vessel Sea River North Slope discovered a class 1 structural failure while preparing to depart the Valdez Marine Terminal, Valdez, Alaska enroute San Fransisco.  A small oil release was observed and completely contained.  Divers estimate an eight to nine inch vertical crack in the cargo tank near frame 65.  The crack is six inches forward of the nearest seam.   The vessel is fully laden with approximately 93,000 barrels of crude oil.   Marine Safety Office Valdez dispached personnel to scene.  There is medium media/public interest.  The vessel remains at the terminal and lightering operations are underway. Marine Safety Office Valdez will continue to monitor the situation.   The vessel has been cleared for departure.  CASE CLOSED.
