At approximately 5:00am on 06-Feb-2000, the tank barge VB 42 ran aground near navigational light number seven on the Nanticoke River (in the vicinity of Crisfield, MD). At 1:30pm, during high tide, the master of the tug "TAFT BEACH" unsuccessfully attempted to refloat the barge. Coast Guard personnel from Activities Baltimore arrived on scene at 5:30pm to conduct a preliminary assessment and casualty investigation. No damage or leakage has been reported from the vessel's 924,000 gallon tank at this time. The tank barge "DOUBLE SKIN-15" has been dispatched from Norfolk, Va. to lighter the barge VB 42's cargo of # six fuel oil. Provided all prerequisites are in place, lightering operations will commence at approximately 7:00am on 07-Feb-2000. CASE PENDS.
