On June 7,2001 a storage tank at an abandoned hospital spilled 100 barrels of diesel fuel when a tropical storm impacted the area around Erath, LA. The diesel fuel along with some gasoline and lube oil spilled into the Bayou Tigre. Forty families, from the surrounding area, were evacuated due to the spill of diesel fuel and the flooding associated with the tropical storm. The Environmental Protection Agency, LA Department of Environmental Quality, state police and fire department all responded to the incident location. Booms have been deployed and a contracted company has been hired to conduct the clean up. CASE CLOSED.
