On November 10, 2000, the National Response Center received a report from American Commercial Barge of a 100 gallon diesel spill from the Motor Vessel Sandy N. MSD Baton Rouge dispatched pollution investigators to the scene and it was discovered that 2340 gallons of diesel was actually released during bunkering operations when a cap on a fuel oil header came loose. A sheen was sighted at mile 227 on the Mississippi River approximately 1.5 miles by 200 yards in size with several large pockets near left descending bank at mile 225. Contractor was hired. Boom was deployed and cleanup was underway. Cleanup was all completed the same day. MSD Baton Rouge completed pollution case. CASE CLOSED.
