UPDATE: On January 27, 2000, the NRC received a report from Marathon Ashland Pipeline about a release of crude oil from their 24-inch pipeline near Winchester, KY. To date 23,000 gallons of oil/water mixture have been removed, along with 3,700 tons of contaminated soil. EPA IV is on scene monitoring over 200 clean up contractors. All of the product is still contained within Two Mile Creek. This will be a long term cleanup operation due to the large amount of oil released and the cold temperatures. CASE CLOSED FOR NRC.
