On June 24, 2000 at 12:15pm local time the tug Edward E Gillen III, struck a submerged object in the Kinnickinnic River. The tug's hull was fractured at the port fuel tank, below the water line, releasing approximately 1,000 gallons of diesel. MSO and Sta Milwaukee deployed the initial boom. The tug hired a contractor and cleanup is underway. Divers installed a temporary patch. 6,000 gallons of product was removed from the tug. Estimated cleanup to go through the evening of June 25, 2000 with final assessment of cleanup on June 26, 2000. CASE CLOSED.
