On September 8th on the Ohio River at mile 976.0 the Motor Vessel Don Stephens struck a submerged object and tore a three foot by six inch hole in the starboard fuel tank.  An estimated 500-1000 gallons of diesel was spilled with approximately 245 gallons recovered.  1000 feet of river boom has been deployed around the vessel and the cairo water intake has been boomed off as well.  The starboard fuel tank was lightered onto an economy boat store fuel flat.  The Motor Vessel Don Stephens is at a local drydocks for repairs.CASE CLOSED.
