As of May 30, 2000, the fire of the 30 to 34 derailed railcars, that were carrying various hazardous materials, is on going but have been nearly extinguished. Two cars were reported to have the possibility of Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosion (BLEVE) and one was blown up using dymanite in order to allow firefighters to move in even closer. The FOSC has been monitoring the atmosphere and has come up with negative findings. The no fly zone is still in effect and 2,000 people have been evacuated in the area with 60 more people voluntarily leaving due to wind changes. Contamination of the surrounding soil, local pond, and bayou has not been determined as of yet. Plans are for two teams to begin cleanup once the fire is extinguished. CASE CLOSED.
