On May 27th at 11:48 local, a Union Pacific freight train had 10 cars derail on a train made up of 113 cars and three locomotives near Eunice, Louisiana. A fire erupted from the derailed cars. The train was reportedly carrying 12 different hazardous material including: dichloropropane, acrylic acid, and methyl chloride. A no fly zone was placed in effect over the area and approximately 3500 people were evacuated from a 2.5 mile radius. Fire fighters reported difficulty in fighting the fire because the water reactive material and foam reactive material were located next to each other. Three fire departments responded to the fire and the Environmental Protection Agency Region VI is Federal on Scene Coordinator for any environmental impact. CASE PENDS.
