At 6:00PM July 06, 2000 USCG Marine Safety Office Corpus Christi received a report that the tug boat JACKIE CENAC collided with a moored construction barge. The tug was pushing barge CTCO315 which was loaded with the petroleum distillate Raffinate. The impact produced a 3 foot long gash in the port tank of the Raffinate laden barge causing a release of 18,000 gallons of the material to release into the Corpus Christi ship channel near the Tule Lake turning basin. Marine Safety Office Corpus Christi, along with Parks and Wildlife. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the General Land Office, are conducting environmental impact assesments and overseeing the spill response. CENAC Towing, the owners of the barge, have hired a civilian contractor to conduct the clean up and perform air monitoring of the spill area. Officials have determined that there is no immediate threat to the public. CASE CLOSED.
