Location: Scotts Creek
Source: Storage Tank
Material: Oily Water Mixture
Severity: Unknown
Quantity Discharged: 8,090 Gallons
Quantity in Water: Unknown
Body of Water Affected: Scotts Creek
Federal On-Scene Coordinator: MSO Hampton Roads, VA

On January 23, Boiler Cleaning Service Company suffered a broken valve on a manifold which resulted in a release of 8090 gallons of oily water mixture. The oily water entered a storm drain which travels approximately 1.6 miles to Scotts Creek. Public Service officials determined that oily water traveled 85 percent of the distance to the creek. The responsible party installed blank flanges to isolate the tank. Vacuum trucks placed at the facility and along the drain removed 26,500 gallons from the storm drain and outfall. Additional booms will be placed at the outfall. MSO Hampton Roads will continue to monitor the cleanup. CASE CLOSED.
