Description:

On Sep 10, 2001 at approximately 1230 local time, 50 barrels of crude oil was released from Vacuum Tower 583 at the Sinclair Oil Corp refinery in Sinclair, WY. The spill occurred when a valve failed to close in the tower during an electrical power failure affecting the facility. The material flowed from the tower onto a concrete pad, then into an oil sewer leading to a wastewater treatment plant. Purportedly, 45 barrels of oil were recovered. 95 percent of the material was contained in the catch pond on site. EPAVIII is monitoring. CASE CLOSED.
