Description:

At 11:45 a.m. E.S.T., on December 20, 2001, a tanker truck overturned on the highway causing the release of between 300 and 3000 gallons of JP-4 (jet) fuel. An unknown amount entered a creek adjacent to the highway. The incident took place 1 mile north of the intersection of county road 29 and state route 26. Due to the incident, route 26 has been closed for 3 hours and will remain closed for at least another 6 hours while clean up continues. As a result of the incident, the driver was taken to the hospital and persons in a nearby residential area were evacuated due to the threat of fire. An attempt to contain the material in the brook has been made and the remainder of the fuel in the tanker is being offloaded into another vehicle. EPA II is the Federal On Scene Coordinator. CASE CLOSED.
