Description:

On July 23, 2001 the 600 foot freight vessel SALUSNAVIS ran aground outside of Egmont Key Channel, near Tampa Bay, FL. The vessel was outbound, carrying 27,000 metric tons of Phosphate as cargo, and had 400,000 gallons of diesel on board. First and second attempts to refloat the vessel were unsuccessful. A tug is enroute again for a third attempt. There has been no apparent damage and no pollution. A Marine Safety Office Tampa response team is enroute to the vessel. The vessel will continue half-hour tank soundings while it is being refloated. CASE CLOSED
