On February 10, 1999 one of Colonial Pipeline''s 10 inch lines released about 45,000 gallons of diesel to the Tennessee River near Knoxville, TN. Six families were evacuated for one day and a ten mile section of the river remains closed as a result of the release. The Federal Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Coast Guard''s Gulf Strike Team, the Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency, the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (Water Pollution Control Department), the Tennessee Valley Authority, and the National Transportation Safety Board have all assisted on the scene.
