On February 10, 1999 at approximately 2:45 am local time a break was dicovered in a 10 inch oil transmission line. The product was heavy diesel used to fuel heavy farm equipment. The rupture occurred in downtown Knoxville, Tennessee near the Henley Street Bridge. Colonial shut down the pipeline, but it is estimated that approximately 2,000 barrels of product was released and made its way to the Tennessee River. EPAIV is on scene and Colonial''s clean up contractor as well as local responders have deployed booms in the river. The State Water Quality Department is monitoring water intakes down stream.
