These reports describe significant environmental incidents reported to and tracked by the National Response Center. They reflect both new incidents and follow-up information describing actions taken for previously reported events. The NRC publishes Incident Summary Reports periodically upon receipt of documentary information from the Federal On-Scene Coordinator.

Occurence Date: 24 November
Location: Four Bayou Pass (10 miles E of Grand Isle, LA)
Source: 20" Pipeline
Material: Crude Oil
Severity: Medium
Quantity Discharged: 37,500 Gallons
Quantity in Water: 37,500 Gallons
Body of Water Affected: Four Bayou Pass
Federal On-Scene Coordinator: MSO New Orleans, LA

Skimmer operations on 25 November yielded 7,980 gallons of recovered oily water. Chevron aircraft were used to spot for the skimmers throughout the morning, and reported a wide spread sheen and a two mile streamer of oil extending southeast of Barataria Pass. M/V LOUISIANA RESPONDER has recovered all major concentrations of oil. 50 to 100 oiled birds were sighted, and the International Bird Rescue and Research center is on scene. The morning overflight on 26 November showed no more recoverable floating oil, and spotty to light shoreline impact on beaches from Four Bayou Pass to Grand Isle State Park, and moderate impact on Elmer’s Isle/Caminada pass area. Beach clean up continues, though it has been hampered by rough weather. Future plans, for MSO New Orleans, are to continue damage assessment of the pipeline and continue oversight of the remaining clean-up operations. CASE CLOSED.
