On October 12, 1999 the Production Plating Company in Eastpointe, MI experienced a chemical fire in one of their buildings. Several of the firefighters who responded to the fire were reported affected by chemical fumes and were transported to the hospital. Several nearby residents, schools, and businesses have been evacuated due to the potential risk of smoke containing hazardous materials. EPA On-Scene coordinators from EPA''s Region 5 satellite office are assisting in the response by conducting air monitoring. EPA cleanup contractors are on stand-by. CASE CLOSED.
