Today at approximately 9:00 am local time a chemical explosion and fire occurred at Mcgean-Rohco Company in Livonia, Michigan. The fire was extinguished, however, it produced a green cloud migrating from the facility. The chemical composition of the cloud is unknown at this time. Interstate 96 is closed in both directions. Local emergency management officials evacuated two businesses near the facility and issued a shelter-in-place within a .5 mile radius of the facility. The explosion injured one person, however, no information was available on the person''s condition. The cause of the explosion and fire was reported as unknown.

The local fire department and hazmat team responded to the incident. EPA Region 5 dispatched a team of two On-scene Contractors and contractor support to the facility this morning. They will conduct air monitoring and provide technical assistance as needed. CASE CLOSED.
