At 1400 local time, Marine Safety Office New Orleans received a report of an oil spill in Ramah, Louisianna. The release occurred at a facility owned by Bridas Energy of Houston. A 3 inch transfer line cracked and an estimated 200 barrels of crude oil was released. There is a levee between the facility and the Atchafalaya River, but some oil entered Bayou Henry through the drainage system. The Environmental Protection Agency Region VI office was notified and deferred Federal On Scene Coordinator responsibilities to the Coast Guard. The majority of the oil released remained on the facility grounds. Cenac Environmental is conducting the clean-up. Clean-up operations are expected to be completed by the afternoon of August 01, 1999. CASE CLOSED.
