On January 29, 1999 the M/V TED WAXLER''S barge WTC 2014 allided with a 10-foot diameter mooring buoy near Bayou Sorrel, LA. The barge was holed in the No:1 port tank, which contained 2,451 bbls of unleaded gasoline. There was a release of approximately 64,000 gal of product. The Gulf Strike team was on scene to assist. The waterway was initially closed from mile marker 36.7 to mile marker 35.0 on the Port Allen alternate route ICW. It has been re-opened to one way traffic. All vessels have cleared the queue. Lightering operations have begun with the M/V BILLIE WAXLER and the barge OMR 2577. An environmental contractor has been hired. The Bayou Sorrel Fire Dept, Army Corps of Engineers, Plaquemines HAZMAT, and MSD Baton Rouge all responded to assist. CASE CLOSED THIS UNIT.
