On February 17, 1999 MSO Morgan City received a report of an unknown Crude oil discharge into the Bernard Canal, St. Martinsville, LA. The MSO dispatched an investigative team who confirmed an oil discharge covering an area of 40ft x 1.5 miles in position N30-12 W91-42. The location is in the EPA zone. EPA reported they had no resources to respond. MSO Morgan City responded and found a spill of 400-600bbls of crude oil. The spill occurred at at an abandoned facility from faulty piping on 2 400bbl tanks. The oil spilled into a 40ft canal which leads to Catahoula lake, a non-navigable waterway. Cenac Environmental has been contracted to conduct containment and clean-up. The spill is reportedly contained with boom in the canal. The Gulf Strike Team has been requested and is sending personnel. CASE PENDS.
