On Thursday, December 17, 1998 the National Response Center was notified of a fire at a large multi-occupant warehouse facility in Mount Vernon, Indiana. Fire fighters extinguished the fire on Sunday, December 20, 1998. Some hot spots remain but the smoke plume has dissipated. The cause of the fire is still unkown. On site real time air monitoring did not detect contaminant levels above allowable exposure levels. Contaminated water runoff did enter Mcffadden Creek, a tributary to the Ohio River. Fire fighters used foam and water to smother the fire and to prevent spreading. Berms were used to collect runoff. CASE CLOSED
