SITUATION: On Thursday July 02, 1998, a spill occurred at Waltham High School In Waltham, Massachusetts. The source of the spill was determined to be the school’s fuel oil tanks, located behind the school. The Waltham Fire Department estimates that 12,000 gallons of fuel oil, No. 2 diesel was released into the soil and an unnamed marshy area behind the school. Clean-up is on going and 6,500 gallons of spilled material has been recovered. The two fuel oil tanks have been drained of all product. The cause of the spill is under investigation by the Federal Environmental Protection Agency in Region One. CASE CLOSED.
