SITUATION: On Friday 12 December, 1997, at 1820 the M/V Calcite II ran aground in the Saginaw River at Mile Marker 14.5. USCG Station Saginaw River responded and reported the vessel as bow lightly aground with stern almost touching the opposite side of the river and blocking river passage. No traffic was indicated as leaving the system en route the Saginaw. Vessel had a cargo of limestone and contained 20,000 gallons of diesel and 50,000 gallons of marine gas oil. Pollution threat considered minimal. At 0755 on 13 December, 1997 vessel was refloated with the aid of the tug John Tervis. Vessel proceeded to nearest dock for inspection. At 1000 13 December, 1997 vessel passed inspection. Vessel is U.S. flagged and owned and operated by USS Great Lakes Fleet Inc.. CASE CLOSED THIS UNIT
