SITUATION: On Wednesday, November 26, 1997, the M/V Kuroshima ran aground in 50 knot winds and strong surf at Priest's Rock, Summer Bay, Unalaska Island, Alaska. The vessel's port side is against the rocks with an estimated list of 10 degrees and is currently stabilized. The vessel is reported to be holding 190,000 gallons of fuel oil. The #3 fuel oil tank containing 12,000 gallons of Bunker C fuel is holed and its contents are presumed lost. Extent of spill is not yet accurately known due to weather, however, much of the Summer Bay shoreline in the vicinity of the vessel is covered with oil. Due to strong winds, a significant amount of oil entered Salt Water Lake and is contained by boom. Lightering and clean up operations are to commence on 28 November 97. CASE PENDS.
