SITUATION: On Wednesday, November 05, 1997, a Medium oil spill occurred when the Motor Vessel "Kure" backed into a piling at the Louisiana Pacific Lumber dock in Samoa, California and damaged a fuel tank resulting in the release of 16,000 gallons of Bunker C fuel. Coast Guard Pacific Area Command reports the release lasted 20 minutes and that the hole has been patched. Pacific Strike Team has been activated and will respond with skimming equipment and booms. The National Pollution Funds Center has authorized $500,000 for cleanup. USCGC Conifer has been recalled and is enroute to Humboldt Bay. Responsible Party has hired Clean Pacific to perform cleanup. Humbodt Bay has been closed by the COTP. CASE PENDS.
