SITUATION: On Monday September 29, 1997, a medium oil spill occurred when a 20 inch offshore transmission pipeline began leaking and released an estimated 200 to 500 barrels of crude oil. The spill was located two miles offshore from Vandenburg Air Force Base near Lompoc, California (Latitude: 34-40N, Longitude: 123-9W). Personnel from Marine Safety Office Los Angeles / Long Beach, Marine Safety Detachment Santa Barbara and the Pacific Strike Team are on scene and monitoring the clean-up operations. CASE PENDS.
