SITUATION: On Friday, September 12, 1997, an oil sheen was discovered in the vicinity of Magnolia Field Marshland, Louisiana. The sheen was originally reported as an estimated 10 barrels spilled but 175 barrels were recovered. A 2.5 inch flowline was discovered to be the source and was shut in to stop further release of materials. About one square mile of marshland has been impacted by the spill. The clean-up project was Federalized with a $25,000 ceiling to cover Coast Guard personnel costs only. Marine Safety Office New Orleans will monitor boom maintenance until clean-up operations are completed in an estimated 30 days. CASE CLOSED THIS UNIT.
