SITUATION: On Wednesday, July 02, 1997, at approximately 2:30 am, two freight trains collided, derailed and caught fire near Kenefick, KS. Although both trains carried significant amounts of hazardous materials, only limited amounts were involved in the derailment and resulting fire. A Roadway Express piggy back car contained 10 packages, 635 pounds of Radioactive Material, NOS, UN2982, Radioactive Yellow-II (radioactive materials, articles or isotopes). The Radioactive Material may be either one, or both of two styles of Molybdenum 99/Technicium 99m Generators. Since there is a strong likelihood the radioactive material and its shielding were compromised in the fire, the site will be assessed for possible contamination, as soon as heat subsides. CASE CLOSED THIS UNIT.
