SITUATION: On Tuesday June 17, 1997, the potential for a major spill occurred when the 315 foot Tank Barge FNT 340 ran aground near Clarks Point after its anchor dragged due to the current. The Tug C.F. Campbell was anchored with the barge but was unable to weigh anchor and maneuver before the barge went aground. The barge contained 60,000 barrels of material onboard but no pollution or sheen was reported. A boom was placed around the barge as a precautionary measure and the barge was re-floated at high tide. All tanks were sounded and voids inspected with no damage or pollution noted. An underwater survey will be conducted at the completion of the barge's intended voyage. CASE CLOSED.
