SITUATION: This updates the Rig Mallard 52 fire and explosion that occurred while drilling for natural gas on Lake Chicot gas field off of the Atchalafaya River. The rig is located in a canal 1600 yards from the river. The fire is still burning out of control. Attempts to extinguish the fire have been hampered by weather and the need to stage more equipment. All of 22 crew members have been accounted for - 18 safely evacuated, 4 dead. The river remains open at this time and no major environmental impact is reported. The material continues to be burned off as it is released. A fire control contractor will attempt a 'dynamic kill' on June 19th. CASE PENDS.
