SITUATION: On Friday June 13, 1997, the potential for a major spill occurred when a cylindrical tank on the barge PVS-103 containing 141,120 gallons of hydrochloric acid was holed. Temporary repairs have been made to the tank and the release is secured. The 1500 gallons of acid below the tanks has been removed and the vapor clouds have ceased. Air monitoring continues though. The barge was taken to the BASF dock to be off loaded while being supervised by the GST. The Mississippi River has been reopened. Permanent repairs will be made at the BASF dock. CASE CLOSED THIS UNIT.
