SITUATION: On Tuesday, May 27, 1997, a medium oil spill of M-Xylene occurred when a valve on an intake pump on the Tank Barge MMI-101 was partially closed causing several other pumps to over pressurize and overflow the No.4 port cargo tank. A contractor placed boom around the barge to contain the material. Due to the high evaporation rate the product was allowed to dissipate. Air monitoring was conducted with no readings above the 100ppm TWA. MSO Houston Galveston is continuing the casualty investigation. CASE CLOSED THIS UNIT
