Description:

On July 1, 2001 the National Response Center received a report concerning a ten inch pipeline rupture spilling crude oil into a creek in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. The initial report indicated that the source of the spill had not been secured and that 100 barrels/4,200 gallons of oil had been spilled with 30 barrels/1,260 gallons entering the creek. The pipeline has been secured and the amount spilled into the creek has been increased to approximately 750 barrels/31,500 gallons. Federal, State and Local agencies along with three clean up contractors are on scene. Over the night 300 barrels of product, containing between 20 and 30 percent water, had been recovered. CASE CLOSED.
