ACCIDENT DESCRIPTION:
The deceased was assisting three employees in filling water
tanks on their
drill trucks. Water was being pumped from a hole in a beaver
pond with a small
gasoline motor driven pump. Two trucks had been filled when
Unit #231 arrived.
The pump had to be primed to start it pumping. For some reason,
the deceased
used liquid from an anti-freeze container at the site. This
container had
contained gasoline. When the pump began to work, this gasoline
was pumped into
the truck storage tank. Another worker was using a tiger torch
to melt ice
from around the filler neck, when an explosion occurred. Both
ends of the
storage tank were blown off and the left side struck the deceased.
