ACCIDENT DESCRIPTION:
When a group
of specialists attempted to control a wild well, a fire
occurred which destroyed the drilling rig. Work then commenced
to remove the rig debris from the well site and the fire was
extinguished by explosives. Work then resumed to bring the well
under control. While attempting to lower a B.O.P. device onto
the well casing in what was expected to be a final step in
bringing the well under control, two workers were overcome by
H2S and died.
