Description:

On November 21, 2002 at 0302 the National Response Center received a report of a gasoline spill from Cliburn Tanklines. The caller stated that a tractor trailer tanker truck broad sided a passenger car that had pulled out into traffic. The accident caused the truck to roll on to its side and release gasoline from its tank. A fire then broke out and the caller reports that all 8600 gallons of gasoline on board were either burned off or released on to the road. The local police and fire department responded. The fire was extinguished and no injuries or fatalities were reported. One lane of Highway 49 southbound was closed. Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality is on scene to supervise the cleanup operation which is being performed by U.S. Environmental Services. Environmental Protection Agency Region IV will be sending representatives to the incident location to assist.
