| Description: The 632-foot U.S. flagged tank ship LEADER grounded on 30 January during a tidal change while at anchor. A puncture in one of the center tanks containing Methyl Tert-Butl Ether was discovered during the morning of 31 January. It is estimated that over 14,000 gallons have been released. The material is colorless, odorless, and highly flammable, however, evaporates quickly when exposed to the atmosphere. The Coast Guard is working with local and state agencies to test the air and determine the spread of the material. Currently, press interest is light, but growing. CASE PENDS. |
