| Description: At 9:00 a.m. C.S.T, on May 17, 2002, heavy rain caused a storage tank to overflow and release 1000 barrels of crude oil onto the ground. The incident took place at Valero Energy Plant in Texas City, Texas. The release has been secured and cleanup is underway. Crews are using vacuum trucks to pick-up the material. The expected completion day for the cleanup is May 20, 2002. There were no injuries or evacuations as a result of the release. At this time none of the material has reached water, though potential does exist. MSU Galveston is the Federal On Scene Coordinator. CASE CLOSED |
