Description:

At approximately 1:15pm local time a 22 inch underground pipeline spilled crude oil. The exact cause of the incident was not known at the time the report was made to the National Response Center. The majority of the oil spilled directly onto farmland that is located two miles east of Roxana. It was later discovered that an unknown amount of oil had made it into the Indian Creek. Boom has been deployed and the drainage tile leading to the creek has been removed to prevent further spillage to the creek. The pipeline has been secured but the valve is located miles away from the discharge point. As a result the pipeline has to be drained. Marthon Ashland is on scene removing the remaining oil from the pipeline and conducting the clean up. The Environmental Protection Agency is also on scene. CASE CLOSED.
