At first light on April 13, 1999 the Coast Guard conducted an overflight of the fishing vessel Van Loi and observed two 50 by 5 yard sheens around the vessel. Approximately one and a half miles of beach remains closed while oily debris are removed from the beach. No wildlife was discovered or reported to be effected. The port side of the vessel has a 12 inch wide fracture extending below the waterline. The bow and stern sections appear to be moving independently with the wave action. The vessel broke into three sections by 2:40 pm. CASE PENDS.
