On Saturday, April 10, 1999 the motor vessel VAN LOI ran aground near Kapaa, Kauai, Hawaii. The vessel was taking on water one mile off the coast. The crew was safely removed from the vessel. The vessel is currently grounded on a reefline. The vessel is stable and contains 16,000 gallons of diesel fuel. The vessel will be lightered prior to salvage operations which will begin as soon as weather permits. Absorbents and shoreline protection equipment is being pre-staged at Kapaa. Diesel fuel is leaking from the starboard fuel tank at a slow rate and has created a light sheen. MSO Honolulu will monitor clean-up. CASE PENDS.
