At 11:53 on the 12th of January the National Response Center received numerous reports of a potential major oil spill. It was reported that the tank barge SMITTY 17 was struck by the offshore supply vessel ELKHORN RIVER which resulted in a hole on the barge above the water line. At the time of the call the size of the hole was not known and the release was ongoing. The barge has a 10,000 barrel capacity. CASE PENDS.
