On the night of 24 June, the tow vessel Lonnie T struck the tank barge DXE2954. The barge was moored at the Shell Oil dock on the Houston Ship Channel in Deer Park TX. The barge sustained a four foot gash in the number two port cargo tank approximately two feet above the waterline. 350 barrels from a tank holding a total of 9,000 barrels of kerosene were released into the Houston Ship Channel. Shell Oil personnel immediately placed booms around the barge to contain the spill. A temporary patch was placed over the damaged section of the hull. Clean-up operations were completed at 2100 on 25 June 1999. CASE CLOSED.
