They reflect both new incidents and follow-up information describing actions taken for previously reported events. This report provides an update to the grounding of the M/V NEW CARISSA. The vessel has been successfully ignited in an attempt to burn off the fuel oil. At approx 5:30 P.M. , February 11, charges were detonated igniting the fuel on board. Within an hour the entire ship was engulfed in flames. At midnight Thursday the stern was observed to be separated from the vessel. The forward portion of the vessel continues to burn. Estimate that 90% of the fuel will be burned by 6:00 - 7:00 P.M. PST, February 12. A smoke plume continues to to move offshore and winds are likely to remain favorable for the remainder of the day. Crews have deployed over 16,000 feet of containment boom in the area to stop the fuel from spreading. Skimming is in progress with 2 vessels and 1000ft of boom inside Coos Bay. Oil impact extends to north jetty with 75% of beach impacted in that area. Light sheen reported inside of Coos River from jetty up west bank to Hungryman Cove. Oil impacted beach approx .1 mile south of vessel and in wind rows 1 mile further south. A 1.5 X 2.5 mile sheen area is located SW of the vessel. 400 person clean up crew to continue recovery activities. CASE PENDS
