On March 30,1999 a farmer was installing drain tiles and struck a pipeline owned by Marathon Ashland Pipeline. Initial estimates reported 100 barrels of diesel spilled into a ditch. After investigation greater than 1000 barrels had actually been spilled. Immediately after the farmer struck the pipeline he used his backhoe to construct a berm. The berm contained the majority of the diesel resulting in only a sheen appearing on the branch of the Little Racoon creek. All of the free product has been recovered and soil remediation is now being addressed. CASE CLOSED.
