On May 11, 1999 the Leach and Garner facility in North Attleboro, MA reported a release of anhydrous ammonia from two 1600 gallon ammonia storage tanks. The release began when a piping elbow failed at about 2:20 PM EDT. Interstate 95 southbound was closed and approximately 250 employees were evacuated as was the surrounding industrial area. The local fire department used water spray on the ammonia as it was releasing from the tanks. Runoff water may enter nearby storm drains. The intersate has been reopened, and evacuees should be allowed back into the area this evening. CASE CLOSED
