On June 15,1999 around 7:45 in the evening a gasoline tank truck tipped over as it entered the on-ramp from Buford Highway to Interstate-285 in Doraville, Georgia. The truck''s cargo tank ruptured releasing nearly 9,000 gallons of gasoline into storm drains and a slow moving tributary of the Peachtree creek. Nearby residents were warned to stay indoors and to secure ventilation sources. Between 600 and 800 people were evacuated later Tuesday from the Northwoods residential area after the vapor levels exceeded the state standards. Local police closed the entry and exit ramps to Interstate-285 on Buford Highway. The responsible party contracted a cleanup crew to begin a cleanup. Portable dams and secondary containment have been installed to block any spillage in the event of continuing rain. Environmental Protection Agency Region Four dispatched an On Scene Coordinator to assist in the clean up efforts. CASE CLOSED
